Nice Quick Trip in August

florida / August 18, 2014

The star aligned, or more correctly, we had enough miles to fly down for a couple of weeks to check on the House on Federal.

I won’t waste too many words on how different South Florida is in late July and August than it is in December and January. The secret is to shift your internal time zone. We hit the beach at 9 or 10 a.m. and make it home before noon in summer. The water is great, it isn’t crowded, even covered in sunscreen, you get some sun.

The humidity is too much for me in the middle of the day. I ride my bike almost every day, but I do that at 8 or 9 a.m. Norm will go out for an hour or two on bike rides at noon. That’s when I work on my computer in the air-conditioning.

About 6 p.m. it cools down, only because the sun sets, but with the electric golf cart taxis, it can be fun to get around. Otherwise, our trusty bikes get us to “The Avenue” or Kevro’s and other places.

We do see lots of movies in the afternoon and evenings, though it was a great disappointment when they tore down the movie show across the street from us.
